HTML5 form validation


Here’s a good article about leveraging HTML5 input forms and built-in validation. Unfortunately not all browsers support it yet, but it’s a good indication of how strong HTML is now getting. Having less and less requirement for Javascript to accomplish everyday things is fantastic in my mind.

As the author states, one can ignore browsers that aren’t supported, use Javascript to control when it’s done, or one could use something like Foundation by Zurb, which has a validation library. I suspect the Foundation library is leveraging HTML5 where possible, and falling back to Javascript.

Of course you’ll still want server side validation just to ensure nothing gets onto the server, but having validation in the browser certainly improves the UX
